What dental treatment costs at Dentrust
You will never be asked to agree to treatment without knowing what it costs. Every plan is quoted in writing, itemised, with the item numbers your health fund uses.
How we quote
Dental fees are not fixed across Victoria, and no two mouths need the same work, which is why a figure quoted over the phone before an examination is close to meaningless. What we do instead is examine, explain what we have found, and put the options in writing.
Every quote is itemised. Each line carries the Australian Dental Association item number, which is the same code your health fund uses — so you can ring your fund, quote the numbers, and find out exactly what they will pay before you commit to anything. We think that is a more useful form of transparency than a headline price on a website that turns out not to apply to you.
Nothing is started that you have not seen priced and agreed to. If something unexpected is found mid-treatment, we stop and discuss it rather than adding it to the bill.
How you can pay
Payment is due at the appointment unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
HICAPS on site
Your private health fund is claimed at the time of treatment. You pay only the gap rather than claiming a rebate back yourself.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Eligible children can be treated under the Commonwealth scheme. We can check your child’s remaining balance before the appointment.
Card and EFTPOS
Standard payment methods are accepted at the practice.
Itemised written quotes
With ADA item numbers, so you can verify your rebate with your fund before proceeding.
Staged treatment
Where a plan is extensive, it can often be sequenced over time, dealing with the clinically urgent work first. Ring the practice to discuss.

Questions about money are not awkward. They are a normal part of deciding on treatment and we would rather you asked.
Why we do not publish a price list
Advertised dental prices are usually the simplest version of a procedure, and most real cases are not the simplest version. A filling can be small and straightforward or large and close to the nerve. An implant may or may not need bone grafting. A crown on a heavily broken-down tooth may need building up first. Publishing a single figure for each of these would give you a number that is likely to change once we have actually looked, which is worse than no number at all.
What we can tell you is this: the examination and any X-rays come first, the written itemised quote follows, and the decision is yours after that. If a plan is beyond what you want to spend, say so — there is nearly always a staged approach or a less expensive alternative, and we would rather discuss it than have you not come back.
We do not offer package deals that bundle treatment in advance, because what you need can only be determined after an examination, and we will not encourage treatment that is not clinically indicated.
Common questions
Can you tell me what a filling costs over the phone?
Not accurately, no. It depends on the size, the position and what is found underneath. We can tell you the cost of the examination, and you will have an itemised quote before any treatment.
What are ADA item numbers?
They are the standard codes used across Australian dentistry for each procedure. Your health fund uses them to work out your rebate, so having them on your quote lets you check your cover before you proceed.
Do you bulk bill?
Eligible children can be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Adult dental treatment is not covered by Medicare in general practice.
What if I cannot afford the whole plan?
Tell us. Treatment can often be staged so the urgent work is done first, and there is frequently a less expensive alternative worth discussing.
Will my health fund cover it?
That depends on your policy, your annual limits and how much you have already used. We claim through HICAPS at the appointment so you see the gap immediately, and the item numbers on your quote let you check in advance.
